Taking on an Intern – huge impact on your business and the economy

KLCBT has officially launched its managed internship programme under the leadership of Special Attachè, Hendrik Janse van Rensburg.  The programme aims to place 300 students at every 6 months interval into small and medium businesses.  This is different from the traditional model where students would typically be placed in large numbers in big companies and        government institutions.  Under the guidance and mentorship of our             implementing agent,         Internship Success, Hendrik will assist you to choose your own intern, provide  orientation, provide the HR management of the intern as well as regular mentorship sessions with the owner.  The intern will be funded through any of the SETA’s, training institutions or       corporate funding, while the host employer will pay an HR fee of  R1800 excluding VAT per month per intern.  This has numerous        benefits.  The small business will add an employee to the business without the burden of an extra salary while they are training a new person and while the business can expand to a next phase.  The student will earn experience and get their qualification.  The business owner will have a fully trained person at the end of the period which then can employ (or not).  The local training institutions get their graduates into               employment and the local economy benefits from the stipends spent into our economy instead of in large numbers in the cities.  If every small business would take one intern, we can literally add 1000 new people in jobs every year.  During the next couple of weeks, we will share some amazing stories about the interns’ success as well as how host employers benefitted from the programme.
