SPAR Lowveld operates in a decentralised format insofar as its management, logistics, purchasing, retail advisory and marketing is concerned. National initiatives, if relevant to the Lowveld, are supported by the region. It services five KWIKSPAR stores, eighteen SPAR stores and twelve SUPERSPARS in the Lowveld, ranging from Komati in the north east, to Carolina in the south west, Burgersfort in the North West and Phalaborwa in the north east, as well as in Swaziland. The Distribution Centre (DC) offers a full range of services to these stores which are, for the most part, owner managed, or part of umbrella organisation that own more than one SPAR store. These services include a full marketing function (buying of grocery items at competitive prices which are then passed on to the stores themselves), advertising and promotions, retail operations management advice (include in-depth financial advice and services) and logistical services. The objective of SPAR Lowveld is to put independent small, medium and large retailers in a position to complete with both major chains, as well as the convenience markets.
