A new regional tourism framework agreement gets implemented
As you are aware, KLCBT is driving eight advocacies and we thought it will be great to inform members about progress and successes as we go along.
Last week, we reported on the IDP input for Mbombela City, which was very well received and we will make a detailed written submission to Council on the 24th November 2016.
This week, we were very happy to present the RTO (Regional Tourism Organisation) Framework agreement to all the municipalities and Local Tourism Organisations. This agreement was signed by all district municipalities, MTPA, and all Regional Tourism Organisations earlier this year and facilitates regular engagement and support between private sector and government regarding tourism and development and promotion. This agreement was initiated by the Department of Tourism and drafted with the assistance of KLCBT. In the following few days, each municipality in the district will be visited individually to discuss details regarding their specific area and their specific tourism needs.
The main aim and benefits of this agreement include:
Cooperation between local government and private sector in the tourism industry;
Collaboration to combine resources to market and develop tourism;
Sharing of best practices and expertise;
Proper integrated planning and strategy through meaningful relationships;
Learning from other regions;
Getting proper funding in place for tourism development and particularly the inclusion of the poorer communities;
Achieving world-class standards with visitor information services and public attractions….
