Thinking without limits at Tourism Roadshows
Over a period of five days and six different venues within the Region, the Kruger Lowveld team presented the state of tourism in South Africa and more specifically in the Kruger Lowveld region to members and tourism stakeholders.
KLCBT President and Kruger Lowveld Tourism Chair, Oupa Pilane, opened the roadshows with a reality check, emphasising the need for the tourism industry to transform and become more inclusive.
He made it clear that the communities neighbouring most of our iconic tourism attractions struggle with extreme poverty and high unemployment rates.
If tourism is to grow in the region, opportunities need to be created for these communities. Lisa Sheard, KLT’s Exective Director of Tourism, followed on with a presentation on the state of tourism and the challenges and opportunities we are faced with in growing the industry in the region. Linda Grimbeek, KLCBT’s COO, closed off by emphasising the need to align LTO structures to Local Municipalities, but at the same time, creating and maintaining Community Tourism Organisations to ensure organisations are representative of the entire community. This will enable municipalities to provide support and funding in a more structured way.
Kruger Lowveld wishes to thank all those who attended our various roadshows as well as all the venues who kindly provided their facilities for the event.
