Protect yourself against online scams (and hackers)

We receive daily sad complaints about a business or person that got scammed through some online     situation.  These criminals have   become extremely resourceful and barely recognizable as a fake.  Please don’t become part of the large pool of victims!  This can come through Facebook, Whatsapp, e-mails, phone calls or SMS, and lots more…  Protect yourself :

Never ever book anything, buy     anything or pay anything by clicking on a link.  Go to the original website of the entity you think it is and make your booking there.

Never provide any password through a link or on a whatsapp or sms, or phone call, not even if you think it is the bank or SARS.  They might know everything about you, like your ID number etc.  Don’t be fooled.  Go to the branch, not on the phone or email.

When an offer is too good to be true, it is too good to be true.       Ignore those very special deals.

If it is a friend that shares an opportunity, phone them or even go to their house to confirm it is really them you are talking to.

Do not be pressured by a sense of urgency, review your statements regularly and report any suspicious    activity to cybercrime.org.za
