Lowveld Legacy Fund to build onto a success story
As we launch the Lowveld Legacy Fund, we will share the story in bits during our daily news, before we will ask you to pledge a monthly or yearly amount to the fund.
The Fund will maintain the 100% tourism safety record; actively promote the Lowveld Region and the good work; and pilot community tourism programmes.
The story started in April 2022 when the first patrols were deployed on the Numbi Road. Since then, we have successfully completed phase I which was the security of the Numbi Road and phase II which was the deployment of a number of strategically placed number plate recognition cameras.
So if we say it was a success so far, what motivates us to claim success?
We have met all targets and expectations and exceeded expectations;
All travel warnings about our area were removed from all embassy websites;
The Numbi Road is free from incidents against tourists for 2 and 1/2 years;
The Kruger Lowveld region is free from incidents against tourists for 8 months;
The 24-hour helpline for tourists in distress coordinates volunteers to be the adopted family member of a tourist in distress for whatever reason. The project is highly successful and the number widely publisized 066 3000 991.
We have a fantastic relationship with all 101 police stations in Mpumalanga;
Communities are very supportive of our actions and patrols;
The integrated dispatch centre has even in its pilot phase, yielded a staggering arrest record;
The centre works in partnership with E2 and SAPS with highly trained controllers coordinating teams of SAPS and vetted security companies;
Cameras do not catch people, dedicated people and constructive operations lead to arrests. More on this in future newsletters.
