Lisa Sheard quoted in the Budget Speech

We are extremely proud to see our own Lisa Sheard, executive director of tourism quoted in today’s budget speech by Pravin Gordhan!!

We recently released the article about the socio-economic impact of tourism and this document was also submitted as a “budget tip” to the Minister.

We were pleasantly surprised and very proud when he closed the section on City Development, human settlements and municipal infrastructure, as follows:

Local initiatives are often the key to progress in tourism and the hospitality industry. Ms Lisa Sheard captured this well in her budget “tip”: “Tourism encourages ‘pride of place’. Pride of place ensures that the water will run, the streets will be clean, signage will be clear…” Ms Sheard also wrote that “Tourism is ‘woman full’. Women excel and dominate… Tourism instils a good and honest work ethic – it will not make you rich and famous quickly, but it can be very rewarding.”

The budget saw a significant increase for tourism and we are hopeful that with this, funding for tourism in Mpumalanga will be increased.
