Let’s clean up the Lowveld! It starts with you

So today we are starting with the first seed as we are having high level discussions concerning cleaning, and by default safety.  These            discussions involve various stakeholders like the taxi associations, large passenger transporters, safari operators, taxi associations, beverage  producers, Kruger national park, private nature reserves and large     tourism establishments, together with MTPA and various municipalities.

The heaps and heaps of rubbish next to the main roads are really not painting a great picture about the Lowveld’s management and our       cultures.  We have to come together to solve this pandemic.

What interventions are needed to solve this? And what can you          contribute to the solution?  What hidden opportunities exist?

I will be leading a panel with some of these large stakeholders to come to permanent solutions to get our routes clean and to stay clean.  We will be discussing possibilities like:

Regular cleaning campaigns and use people who were fined to do     community service.

Enforcement of the laws regarding no littering, and fine people to do   community service.

Placing rubbish bins in busses and taxis (they can be branded for       advertising) with skips at all taxi ranks to empty these bins.

Development of a cartoon mascot (maybe by one of the beverage       companies) with a campaign encouraging people to put rubbish in a bin.

Campaigns at schools and with traditional leaders, etc.
