KLCBT addresses three major safety issues with MEC

In collaboration with the newly established              Komatipoort Chamber, KLCBT has met with the MEC of Safety, Security and Community Liaison, Mr Vusi Shongwe during last week.  The request to the MEC was to lobby at national government for a 24-hour  border post at Lebombo. This is but one of the      problems we need to solve about the thousands of large trucks on our roads.  We will engage trucking forums, trucking owners etc. to start the process of building truck ports along the route to ensure a safe and clean place to rest or overnight.  The issue of safety of tourists and corruption of traffic officials were also main items of discussion.  The MEC undertook to drive the issue of the 24-hour border post, we were informed that the new Provincial Commissioner      appointed a dedicated senior officer to be responsible for tourism safety, and the MEC also requested a       follow-up private meeting with KLCBT to further      discuss the issue of tourism safety.  The meeting is set to take place tomorrow.
