Interventions requested on high level for Border Post Traffic Congestion

The excessive congestion of truck traffic in and around Komatipoort, and more specifically on the N4 leading up to the Lebombo Border Post, has become a crisis which is now totally out of hand and uncontrolled. This situation has a severe impact on the safety of residents, road users, the local economy, as well as farmers and other businesses in and around Komatipoort. Urgent intervention is critical:

1.            Policing all 24 hours till peace and order normalize, is critical and cannot be stayed.
2.            The creation of the third dedicated mineral cargo lane, and
3.            command over particular performances and failures on the Mozambican side is critical and should be done without delay.

The chamber calls upon the RSA leadership to implement these measures immediately.
