Have your say – comment on the Disaster Management Amendment Act

Parliament invites the public to comment on the Draft Disaster Management Amendment Bill – Click the link below to have your say.

The committee requests public comment, before Friday 26 August, on a private members bill proposing to amend the Disaster Management Act to:

  • provide that an extension to state of disaster may only be adopted after a public debate (currently the decision is at the discretion of the Minister);
  • amend the allowed duration of a state of disaster (no more than 21 days);
  • that any action taken as a result of a declaration of a state of disaster is only effective prospectively;

This is an opportunity for you to influence the the draft Amendment Bill before it is enacted.
