Feedback on PEPUDA and more concerns
FIRSTLY – DearSA and FORSA extend a big “Thank you” to you for taking the time and making the effort to send in a submission on the PEPUDA (Promotion of Equality and the Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act) Amendment Bill.
We said that “Every voice makes a difference!” and it certainly did!
Well over 150,000 submissions and comments (through the DearSA platform and directly to the Department) were received by the Department of Justice, the vast majority of which requested the Bill to be scrapped in its entirety.
Please take a moment to view the public participation report on the PEPUDA campaign and a PDF of all 89,524 comments delivered through the DearSA platform, at this link; https://dearsouthafrica.co.za/equality/
SECONDLY – there is a new challenge to religious freedom in the form of the “Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Bill”, which will criminalise certain speech and carries a three-year jail sentence for a first offence. Please take a moment to visit the DearSA website, watch a 2-minute video summarising FOR SA’s concerns, and then make your submission.
The deadline is Friday 1st October, so make you voice count – click the green button or link below now!

FOR SA and DearSA will monitor both these matters closely and will keep you updated on developments.
Thank you for being democratically engaged, active and responsible.
Kind regards
