Economic Expropriation from Fear

During our business conference and even our previous AGM, we have touched on the subjects of a lack of business confidence, post traumatic stress from Covid period and mental health issues that are very real in our society as a result of all the threats we are faced with.  I attended the Annual Conference of Agri Mpumalanga and I would like to share just a few thoughts from the day.

Expropriation without Compensation has resulted in so much fear, that some people are left frozen.  The real threat right now is this economic expropriation from fear.

There is no correlation between the political system / president and growth in agriculture.  The politics of the day is just the politics of the day.  Work with the system and react to change in a healthy way.    A mind shift depends on you and me, not a government change.

Embrace the disrupters, it may just improve our performance.

What is our collective goal (not personal), collective.  We can all go to the stadium and shout for the Springboks to ensure a win and we are very proud as a nation, but what are our other collective goals which are making us proud.  Talk to your community and industry partners about this collective goal and collective plans.

Become part of the collective solution.  The value it leaves in your heart is more important than who is reacting to it on social media.

One of the five biggest challenges listed as threats by the World Economic Forum, where 4 relates to climate, conservation and    resources, the one that stands out for me is Misinformation &       Disinformation.  We really need to put a limit and a logic sensor on our intake of news and social media.

Be aware of this analysis paralysis which generates so much fear that most people are really in a deep depression.

Talk about positive changes of which there are many, talk about your part in the future and your collective goals—

next time you braai with your friend or neighbour.
