Do you need Certificates of Origin to Export?

Many of our members may not be aware that KLCBT is an internationally registered and accredited issuing body for Certificates of Origin.

A Certificate of Origin is an important international trade document that   certifies the nationality of exported goods, confirming they were produced, manufactured, or processed in a specific country—South Africa in our case.  It is required for customs clearance to determine import duties, meet trade regulations, and claim preferential tariff treatment under trade agreements.  COOs are typically issued by Chambers of Commerce across the globe.

Types of Certificates of Origin and who issues them:

Preferential Certificates of Origin are used for trade agreements where goods receive a preferential tariff treatment, they are:

SADC Certificate of Origin—for trade withing SADC and AfCFTA region, issued by SARS Customs only.  Our nearest office is Lebombo border;

EUR.1 Certificate—for trade with Europe including SADC-EU, EFTA-SACU and SACUM-UK trade agreements—Issued by SARS;

Form A Certificate—Used for GSP (Japan, USA, Canada, Russia, Turkey, etc), and AGOA—Issued by Chamber of Commerce (KLCBT);

Non-Preferential Certificates of Origin are used to confirm the country of origin of the goods but does not grant preferential tariff treatment.  This is usually required by the client or the funder of the transaction.

This is issued by the Chamber of Commerce (KLCBT) on a specially    branded stationery.  This can also be issued with a new online system, and electronically stamped and certified by KLCBT.

If you are an exporter or a clearing agent, or know a friend that would     require these to be issued from time to time, please contact our office to learn how we do this and how quick and easy it is to get this done at KLCBT at a nominal fee.  Contact Jonathan or Linda at admin@klcbt.co.za
