Dealing with noise pollution in City of Mbombela

Update on this – please use the new official 24 hour call centre for the City – 086 162 6623

It has come to our attention that several people are having problems with noise pollution in the City of Mbombela area.  The head of Community Safety has created a dedicated 24 hour line to file complaints.  This number is 013 753 3331 but please call when the noise is happening, not the next day.  They will go there and             investigate.  If the noise is repeated, call again and insist on getting an OB number after each call.  He assured us that all cases have been dealt with,   except the last one that came in this week, which they are still investigating.  They even closed some businesses who did not take warnings seriously and others have implemented measures to reduce the noise.  The unit will call the police for assistance if they need support, so we do not have to hassle the police.  Please be pro-active and report.  The City By-laws state that no loud noise is permitted any day after 22h00 until 06h00 and also between 14h00 to 16h00, unless they have a special permit for construction noise, etc.  Interesting also is that no alarm is allowed to sound continuously for more than 20 minutes.   If you lay a complaint and do not get a satisfactory response, please contact us to take it up with the manager.
