City of Mbombela applies for Eskom Debt Relief

The office of the City Manager confirmed the application has been submitted for the city to benefit from the Eskom debt relief.  Should the city be approved by treasury it will bring massive relief to the city’s financial situation.  It comes with conditions set out by treasury and those will also bring improved service delivery.  What government aims to achieve:

Improve Eskom’s balance sheet

Bring about critical changes to the energy sector

Change behavior in the municipal space

Restore basic minimum financial management best practices

Deal with the consumer culture of not paying for services consumed, and

Restore financial sustainability in municipalities…
