Census 2022 data collection

Dear Members,
Census 2022 will be conducted during February 2022, with tomorrow, 2nd February at midnight, being used as the Census night.
Fieldworkers will visit facilities between 03 and 28 February to take a count of all the guests who were there during the Census night – midnight 2 February 2022.
This Census is the first to be conducted digitally and Stats SA has 3 modes of data collection that will be used to complete the questionnaire, these are:
- By Telephone
- Online
- Face-to-face, where Stats SA Fieldworker will visit homes and accommodation establishments to assist in completing the questionnaire
Fieldworkers visiting accommodation establishments will only
use administrative information/data provided by guests to the
accommodation establishments at the time of booking or when they checked in,
i.e the guest’s ID number, home address, and nights spent at
the accommodation establishment. There will be no need for additional
information supplied by guests or any personal contact with
them.
Accommodation establishments can verify the identity of fieldworkers by
visiting http://census.statssa.gov.za/#fieldwork where
the names and contact details of officials for each province are listed.
Fieldworkers will also carry their official Stats SA Identification Cards which
contain the Stats SA logo, a picture of the fieldworker, and the unique
number of the fieldworker.
