CDC upgraded SA to risk level 3
The US Centres for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) has eased travel recommendations for more than 110 countries
and territories, moving South Africa from Level 4 (discouraging all
travel) to Level 3.
The updated guidelines under Level 3 recommend all
travellers first be fully vaccinated, while all unvaccinated
individuals are advised against non-essential travel.
The CDC Website provides
the following key information points for travellers to South Africa:
- Travellers should ensure that they are fully vaccinated before travelling to South Africa.
- Unvaccinated travellers should avoid non-essential travel to South Africa.
- Because of the current situation in South Africa, all travellers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants.
- Recommendations for fully vaccinated travellers.
- Recommendations for unvaccinated travellers.
- Travellers should follow recommendations or requirements in South Africa, including wearing a mask and staying 6 feet (1.8 metres) apart from others.
