Profile

SANParks was established in 1926 when the National Parks Bill was presented to parliament. The Kruger National Park was proclaimed during the same year (1926). At 1962362 hectares, it is the largest protected area in South Africa and currently attracts more than a million visitors per year. It is also recognised as one of the world’s leading examples of a conservation area that balances Tourism, stakeholder engagement and conservation. Looking towards the future, the KNP will continue to play the role of the major South African component of the Greater Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP). This initiative will see the creation of Africa’s largest transfrontier conservation area which will stretch over three countries. Meanwhile the KNP will continue to strive to become the pride and joy of all South Africans and the world.
