Public Participation process on the draft Electoral Commission Amendment Bill

SHOULD ALL PROVINCES BE ALLOWED TO HOLD INDEPENDENT REFERENDUMS? – click the link below to have your say.

In its current form, the Referendums Act only allows for the President to call a referendum and does not provide for a Premier to call for a referendum in a province. However, the draft Electoral Commission Amendment Bill proposes an amendment to the Act that will enable a Premier to call a provincial referendum to ensure that provincial residents can make their voices count on important issues.

As such, parliament has called for public comment and input.

This is an opportunity for you to influence this draft amendment before adoption by parliament.

As an active and valued DearSA participant, we encourage you to endorse, amend, offer suggestions, or simply have your say at the following link; https://dearsouthafrica.co.za/referendum/ (the full details and draft bill available at the link).Your voice most certainly counts.
