Protect yourself on social media

Social media has become a daily essential, but as our digital presence grows, so does the risk—a fertile ground for scammers!  Beware of:

Fake giveaways and contests—they harvest user data or spread malware,  if it is too good to be true…  Genuine giveaways will always be conducted through a company’s official channels and will not ask for sensitive info.  They also use a Quiz to trick you into answering possible security questions

Get-rich-quick investment schemes—Scammers may use fake reviews and edited images to make it look real, even from people you know!  If it is too good to be true… it is too good to be true.  Always verify with an actual phone call to the entity and do a quick Google search which usually warns you if it is a scam.

Impersonating family or friends—scammers create fake profiles to appear  to be your friend, pressuring users into sending money or personal              information, often claiming an emergency.  ALWAYS call them to confirm.
