How does the middle East conflict affect us?

My first word of advice:  South Africa is a trading partner as part of BRICS with Iran, that does not mean we will become part of any conflict.  Rather concentrate on what is happening which is influencing us directly, and amend your budgets and plans accordingly:

The oil price will go up because a major route for oil transport has been closed, resulting in rising fuel prices;

Immediate disruption of international travelling with Dubai being a major hub for stop-over flights.  Some travellers may cancel trips due to fear.

Food price increases driven by global supply shocks as trade routes have to be adjusted, some of our own exporters may have to reroute their shipping;

Some pressure on the Rand;

Trade and diplomatic strain within BRICS;

Strategic pressure on the President’s foreign policy stance.

South Africa has positioned itself as an influential voice within BRICS and on global diplomatic platforms.  If tensions continue to escalate, our        government may be forced to navigate a complex balancing act between major global powers as we have friends on both sides of the conflict.

Remain calm, protesting and mud-slinging will only result in damages to our own country and our own people.  Remain focused on growing South Africa!
