Draft Norms and Standards for the safe operation of the tourism industry is Gazetted

The Tourism Minister has gazetted the Draft Norms in the current Covid-19 environment and beyond.  It will also provide uniformity across the destination.  Please go to our website to view the details.

Mr Oupa Pilane appeals to all tourism establishments to strictly comply to the regulations.  Many reports of non-compliance are filed at SAPS, MTPA and Dept of Labour.  There will be physical inspections by these entities and the MECs during the following days and weeks.  We are concerned that non-compliance may lead to the Lowveld being declared a hot-spot.  This may lead to the closure of the Kruger National Park which will be a disaster for us all—we cannot    afford this, especially during the Easter holidays.

Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane has gazetted the Draft Norms and Standards for the safe operation of the tourism industry in the current COVID-19 environment and beyond.
 
Published in terms of Section 7 (1) (a) of the Tourism Act, 2014 (Act No. 3 of 2014), the purpose of the Draft Norms and Standards is to provide minimum universal practices that the tourism sector must abide by to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
 
In addition, it will also provide uniformity across the destination in view of tools that have been compiled by industry associations and sub-national entities, the Department of Tourism said in a statement.

  • Norms and Standards for Tourism Establishments
  • Norms and Standards for Places of Attractions
  • Norms and Standards for Events, Weddings, Meetings and Convention Centres
  • Norms and Standards for Food Service
  • Norms and Standards for Tour Operators
  • Norms and Standards for Casinos
  • Norms and Standards for Curio Shops

Members of the public are encouraged to submit written representations on these norms and standards to the Minister of Tourism within the next 60 days.
