Disrupted flight schedule by Failure of Critical Air Navigation Service at KMIA

The disruptions currently experienced at KMIA and other airports are due to the failure of South Africa’s Air Traffic Navigation Services (ATNS) to meet the deadlines required to maintain the validity of instrument flight             procedures (IFP’s).  This has resulted in the South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) initiating the suspension of these procedures.

‘KMIA airside infrastructure, lighting, and instrument landing systems (ILS) are in calibrated working order and fully serviceable.  KMIA prides itself on maintaining infrastructure and instrumentation at a very high standards and continues to meet audit requirements expected of it.  The suspension of the instrument flight procedures (IFPs) by ATNS is not due to any non-compliance by KMIA.  As such, KMIA and our airline partners eagerly await for ATNS to resolve the matter and gain the necessary procedure approvals from the (SACAA) that is required of them.  We will continue to work closely with our airline partners to limit the disruption and communicate effectively with all passengers moving through KMIA where possible’.

Meanwhile these disruptions will happen during adverse weather conditions during the next few weeks until the ATNS can obtain exemption from the SACAA.  According to ATNS, this process will take an estimated two weeks.
