Profile

As a welfare organisation, the structure of CMR Mpumalanga forms the largest non-profit (034-569 NPO), non-governmental organisation in Mpumalanga in the fields of child protection, child care and family development.

The CMR is a vehicle for the congregations’ ministry for “witness and care” and congregations need to take co-ownership of the programmes.

In 1954 the CMR was established in Mpumalanga and our offices has delivered a sustainable life changing services ever since. We were previously for 42 years part of the Synodical Commission for the Service of Compassion (SKDB) of Transvaal and later after sub-devision, known as the Christian Welfare Board.

In 2002 an independent organisation with its own body corporate was established in Mpumalanga. This separate structure was in 2008 renamed as the Christelik-Maatskaplike Raad, Mpumalanga.
The CMR renders a comprehensive social service to all communities in order to empower them socially, emotionally and economically.

CMR Mpumalanga reaches approximately 71,684 needy people annually. Our social workers are assisted by at least 2,188 volunteers.
The CMR programs (residential and community-based), provide services in various towns/districts in Mpumalanga. Work agreements between the CMR, other welfare organizations and the Department of Social Development, as well as the admission policy in the case of residential programs, determine the exact work area.
