A Reflection, a Handover and a call to Build
KLCBT’s outgoing President, Prof David Mabunda delivered his final message at the recent AGM, as he was handing over the baton to President Elect, Pottie Potgieter:
“Today marks a handover, not an ending; it is an opportunity to thank members, partners, directors and staff for their commitment; it celebrates a Chamber that has kept business and tourism voices together during difficult times; it invites the next leadership to build on trust, unity and practical action—Leadership is Stewardship: We leave institutions stronger than we found them.”
Mabunda presented the economic pulse of Mpumalanga and highlighted his concern about the terrible unemployment rate of 36.3% which is above the national average, with youth unemployment sitting at 44.7%.
“The goal is not to wait for growth; it is to organise, invest and collaborate until growth arrives.”
He provided a playbook for businesses under pressure and explained the true meaning of resilience, benefitting from bad times.
