25 Years in prison for murderer of German Tourist
Nearly three years to the date of the killing of German tourist, Joerg Schnarr on the Numbi road, 3 October 2022, the 38-year old convicted killer Napoleon Joseph Nyalunga was finally sentenced to 25 years’ direct imprisonment. He was also convicted and sentenced for attempted armed robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
KLCBT welcomes the conviction and sentence and would like to thank each and every person involved with the investigation, intelligence, support from SAPS and victim support provided to the family. Our team was directly involved every step of the way in all aspects of this case and we can finally conclude this chapter by notifying the family. We can only hope this will bring closure and some comfort to them.
During the days after the incident, we had to deal with over a hundred media enquiries from all over the world and the properties around the Kruger area suffered R millions in losses due to cancellations. We could only console the industry by committing every effort to the investigation, to provide the best possible care to the family and to immediately implement programmes that would prevent this from happening again. We worked tirelessly but we made good on all three commitments:
The guilty parties were caught and brought to justice, the family got fantastic aftercare through our Tourism Emergency Aftercare programme and we implemented the Numbi Gate Security intervention followed by the Ehlanzeni Integrated Security Programme. Both are exceptionally successful, yielding a zero incidents on tourists record for 3 years on the Numbi road (since THAT day) and one year in the entire Province since September 2024. This is an impressive record achieved after many arrests and is an ongoing programme for which we are currently fundraising.
Thank you to all who are making this possible. Please contact Linda if you would like to become part of any of the security intervention programmes.
