Kruger Lowveld’s response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s stimulus package
President of KLCBT, Oupa Pilane, has issued a response to South African President Ramaphosa’s stimulus package issued on Friday Kruger Lowveld Tourism once again participated in the ever popular Gautennd September. Mr Pilane welcomed the stimulus package in particular as it related to tourism and job opportunities. The announcement that visa and unabridged birth certifcates requirements for inbound visitors would be reviewed was seen as positive move which could hopefully increase tourism numbers to the country. He went on to call for a review of Provinical tender processes to make them more transparent and less open to abuse, as well as calling for local businesses had greater opporunities to benefit from the tender process. Kruger Lowveld’s Tourism Month Roadshows continue this week
Last week Kruger Lowveld kicked off its Tourism Month Roadshows and held well attended engagements with members and tourism stakeholders in Sabie; Nelspruit and White River. The format of the roadshows has been to give an overview of the current state of tourism in South Africa and then focus on Mpumalanga and more specifically the Kruger Lowveld region. Domestic tourism dropped dramatically in 2017 while interational arrivals have remained steady, but figures for the early part of 2018 indicate that these too are dropping. There are various external factors which affect the decline but the crumbling infrastructure, poor state of public attractions and safety & security concerns are affecting visitor numbers within our region. Kruger Lowveld is not only focussing on the negative, there are opportunities too and we invite attendees to share their ideas in order for us to contribute towards a master plan which can help grow tourism in this region.
This week our roadshow schedule is as follows:
- 26 Sept @ 10:00 Elangeni Lodge (Nkomazi) Kamhlushwa near Tonga
- 27 Sept @ 10:00 Moholoholo Lodge (Bushbuckridge) GaBoelang near Acornhoek
- 27 Sept @ 14:00 Mangwazi Lodge (Bushbuckridge) off R536 near Mkhuhlu
